Like his previous novel, _King of a Small World_ this book is set in the world of gambling. It is, however, even more concerned with the people in that world, the people who run the action as well as those who play.It goes more deeply into that world than I have ever been, into organized crime and violence. So I can't vouch for it's authenticity. But it feels authentic and the characters are compelling. All novels that get a five are not equal and this isn't _Kim_ or _The War for the Oaks_ but it's a Five.

After "King of a Small World," I was worried that that was the end of the story. And, I feel that it shouldn't be. Rick Bennet reaches into the grittiness of a Jim Thompson with the details that Eddie Conlin shares in his "Blue Blood." These are pictures of stark reality with rich stories. Best enjoyed with a dark madura cigar and a glass of your favorite whiskey...
Didn't finish it, a disappointment compared to King of the Small World.
I can't say enough about this novel. I only hope that this isn't the last one.
